Samsung Wave - The First HD DivX Certified Phone

Now that it's been quite a while since the Mobile World Congress 2010 concluded, we hope you still remember the Samsung Wave - the first ever Bada OS based handset.


Well, the Wave was a decent little phone complete with a "Super" AMOLED 3.3-inch touchscreen display with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, a Social Hub for staying in touch with friends, and Samsung's new TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. Back then, we did know that it was the first mainstream mobile device to support Bluetooth 3.0 ND offer 802.11n Connectivity. That, apparently, was not the only "first" that the Wave can boast of. A month down the line Samsung has revealed that the Wave is the world's first mobile phone to get DivX certification for playing back 720p HD content. Samsung also announced that the just announced i9000 Galaxy too would be DivX certified very soon.

Apart from playing back 720p videos, the Wave is also capable of recording videos in 720p resolution. However, it is not the first phone to do so. That distinction is held by another Samsung phone, the S60 based Omnia HD. HD video recording has, in due course, come to other handsets too like the Sony Ericsson Vivaz and the Samsung i9000.
